Painting Sedona

Sometimes you need to learn to be patient when it comes to landscape photography. You never know what is going to happen. I was ready to leave Bell Rock butte which I scrambled up before the dawn climbing up the rocks in order to get the perfect location for the sunrise over the mountains of Sedona. It was not the sun itself that I wanted to capture but the soft morning light kissing the tops of the mountains. My idea never happened due to the cloud cover in front of the sun, so I just sat there under the cover of clouds on one of the many vortex's of Sedona just watching and taking in the beautiful scenery created by nature when luck (or maybe the power of the vortex) gave me a break in the clouds which created a light show of colour and then darkness over the mountains. I picked up my camera and focused on the settlement which caught my eye at that one moment in time leaving the surrounding areas of shadow creating a 3D effect across the mountains.
