Gannets form a strong monogamous pair bonds and mate for life. 

The bonds are reinforced annually through elaborate courtship and greeting rituals when the birds return to the specific resting sites after spending months apart. This beautiful ritual of mutual preening is where Gannets gently groom each others feathers which strengthens their trust and synchronise their activities.
